The world has made much progress in this digital age but Nepal is just growing up . In Nepal, people in many districts do not have Mobile phones , some districts are still lack of internet access and even there is no internet facility in numerous districts .
There is no availability of WIFI to everyone, even in districts with internet access, so more than 80% of people depend on mobile data to use internet. Nepal dose not have its own internet service so that, citizens are forced to use high priced data for internet.
Despite the total population of the country is 30 million but only 60-65% citizens have internet access . So that it is very tough for sharing information through digital platforms or we can say its hardly possible to orient young generation towards digitalization in Nepal .
Nepal government has launched the Nagarik app with the motive to provide governmental services through digital means to the public . Recently , more than 10 services can be easily access through online .
A few time ago, the prime minister KP Sharma Oli has posted on his social media , said that he felt happy that the Nagarik app is leading the country towards the digital age by providing the outstanding online services . Currently in Nepal , the trend of creating mobile application is increasing but the mobile application which are launched in Nepal itself, only few of them have been recognized and being popular to the public.
1.Hamro Patro :
Hamro Patro is launched mainly to show Nepali dates but now this app has been liked and very popular among Nepali community so that, more services has being added till date .
As of July 2025, Hamro Patro is downloaded more than 10 million times in google play store and over 1,00,000 review can be seen . As of today , the rating of this app is 4.5 and the users need to watch ads to use the app .
2. Nagarik App :
In the above, it has been shortly described about this app . This is the official governmental app in Nepal . This app helps to collect governmental documents like citizenship, passport, license, national identity card, educational certificates and other documents in one place in a digital form and even PAN card and police report can be created from within the app in a short time without any hassle .
As of July 2025, Nagarik app is downloaded over 1 million times in google Play store and over 18,000 review can be seen with 4.1 rating play store .
3. Hamro Nepali keyboard :
Almost every Nepali downloads ” Hamro Nepali keyboard ” app as soon as they buy a new mobile phone because this app allow to type in roman script and write in pure Nepali for free .
As of July 2025, this app is downloaded over 10 million times in google play store and over 46, 000 review can be seen . The rating of this app is 4.2 in play store and currently free and ads free .
4. Roshan Shrestha App :
Roshan Shrestha was launched in February 2025 which includes Nepali Calendar and other many services . Among them , the main aim is to address the needs of Nepali workers going aboard and to provide digital knowledge to the youth .
By July 2025, more than 100,000 people had already downloaded the app from the Google Play Store. It had also collected over 10,000 user reviews, with most users giving it full marks – averaging close to 5 stars. The app is still completely free and doesn’t show any ads.
5. Kantipur app :
Kantipur is the oldest media house of Nepal. Kantipur has maintained its dominance from its printing house to digital presence .
Till July 2025 ,in google play store this app is downloaded over 5,00,000 times and 1000 reviews can be seen with 3.6 rating .In total, it is important for this app to focus on users satisfaction in future updates .
6. Online Khabar app :
The official application of Online Khabar is one of the most used apps in news sector which has been building a clean image in Nepali online media in recent times and is popular among the younger generations .
As of July 2025, this app is downloaded over 1,00,000 times in google Play store with 2,000 reviews and have 3.7 rating .In sum, this app needs to be updated to make it user- friendly in nature .
Many others apps have been created in Nepal, some of which have millions and even billions in downloads. But these six apps we have discussed today are the apps that are to interest to many youth in Nepal today and also these apps have been successful to provide Positive value to the users .
Talking about other financial apps in Nepal such as : Connect Ips , Esewa , Ime pay are popular and ride sharing apps like Pathao, Indrive are very popular in Nepal but since these all apps are completely commercial so, they are not listed as providing free and convenient services to public .
Looking at this , the apps made within Nepal itself which is in early growing phase to the digital world has started to make it’ s position in google play store and app store which seems the good effort to move the country towards the digital era .
