Prior to founding eco-nana.com, Ms. Callery had an illustrious career at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. From 2015 to 2024, she served as the managing editor of NASA’s Global Climate Change website, where she was pivotal in disseminating critical climate information. Her tenure at NASA was marked by significant achievements, including winning three Webby Awards and five People’s Choice Awards in 2022 for her work on NASA’s digital platforms. Additionally, she managed the Earth Science Public Engagement Office from 2010 to 2021, further solidifying her reputation as a leader in science communication.
Before her time at NASA, Ms. Callery worked with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control from 2007 to 2010 as a public outreach specialist and climate change team lead. Her role involved communicating complex environmental policies to the public, a skill she honed over many years starting with her political career. Between 2002 and 2007, she held various paralegal positions at prominent companies such as Warner Bros. Television and Starz Media, where she developed her expertise in contract administration and business affairs.
Ms. Callery’s career includes political involvement; she served as a city council member and deputy mayor for the City of Poway from 1992 to 1996 before returning to campaign management. Her professional journey began at UCLA as a staff research associate from 1977 to 1982. Throughout her diverse career, Ms. Callery has been an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the NASA Speakers Bureau.
Ms. Callery’s academic background includes a Master of Applied Science in environmental policy and management from the University of Denver in 2011 and a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology from UCLA. She also holds a paralegal certificate from UC San Diego, which she obtained in 2002. She attributes much of her success to her parents’ lessons in volunteering and her travels to every continent—experiences that opened her eyes to global issues.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ms. Callery is deeply involved in civic activities. She works with groups like Elected Officials to Protect America and the UC Santa Barbara Labor Center to promote renewable energy throughout Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Luis Obispo counties. For over thirteen years, she has served as a board member for the Orang Utan Republik Foundation’s efforts to save wild orangutans through education programs in Indonesia.
Ms. Callery’s contributions have been recognized with several awards. During her tenure, she received two NASA Exceptional Public Achievement Medals, and her climate website team won a NASA Group Achievement Award. She also received a 2017 Explorer Award for Outstanding Business or Technical Accomplishment from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
She has also been acknowledged for her service on the Poway City Council with several honors for after-school and mentorship programs for troubled high school students. As a speaker on climate issues, she continues to share her insights through talks aimed at raising awareness about environmental challenges.
Born in San Jose, Ms. Callery enjoys spending time with her family outside of her professional endeavors. She is a devoted mother to John and Shauna. She also cherishes moments babysitting her two grandchildren. She enjoys socializing with friends and caring for her dogs in her leisure time.
