Specifically, Mr. Garg manages partnerships with the Google Cloud Platform team and coordinates relationships with third-party vendors working on projects for Wayfair. Since joining Wayfair, Mr. Garg’s most notable achievements have included being the first technical program manager, where he led a team of nearly 10 individuals and established numerous processes, including six weekly reviews for the programs he manages. Moreover, he developed the interview process for new technical program managers and successfully launched Wayfair’s large appliances program in January 2023 after it had been delayed by a year. Before joining Wayfair, Mr. Garg had an extensive career at Amazon from 2009 to 2022, during which time he received two A9 Above & Beyond Awards from Brian Pinkerton, the vice president of A9.com in 2015.
Initially, Mr. Garg worked as a software development engineer in tests before transitioning to a technical program manager role in 2016. During his tenure at Amazon, he worked on the production of Alexa devices on a large scale. One of his most notable projects was working on the Echo Auto, a small device that brings Alexa functionality to cars, which has sold millions of units. He was also involved in designing experiments for their advertising program, which resulted in a $15 million increase in annualized revenue for Amazon Ads by 2016. For his exceptional performance, he earned a promotion to senior technical program manager in 2018, where he continued to excel until his departure in 2022.
Originally from India, Mr. Garg began his career at Microsoft India R&D Ltd., where he served as a software development engineer in test from 2006 to 2009. His journey into the information technology field was inspired by his experience developing software to manage inventory at Autoways Workshop, an auto collision center he co-founded with his brother in India after completing his Bachelor of Technology in mechanical engineering from Punjab Technical University in 2004. Throughout his career, he has pursued further education and certifications that equipped him with valuable skills that have been integral to his career progression. These include completing the Project Management Certificate Program at Colorado State University in 2020 and obtaining certificates from Lynda.com and IDEO U in scrum basics and turning ideas into action, respectively.
In reflecting on his journey, Mr. Garg believes that empathetic leadership has been a key factor in his career success. Rather than viewing his colleagues as competition, he remains focused on lifting them up and achieving success together, an approach his superiors have viewed positively. Simultaneously, he is extremely ambitious in his career, refusing to let obstacles deter him. Instead, he uses challenges as motivation to come back even stronger.
Beyond his professional focus, Mr. Garg is committed to making a positive impact through civic engagement and has been involved with various organizations over the years. From 2010 to 2012, he organized collection drives for Greater Hope International India in Bangalore and volunteered with Second Harvest Food Bank during fundraising events. In his leisure, Mr. Garg enjoys spending time with his family, which includes one daughter and one son, and also has a passion for running and indulges in creative pursuits, such as sketching, drawing, painting and arts and crafts.
