Restructuring in the Sophos portfolio: Intercept X is now Sophos Endpoint. Sophos EDR is new. ( (C) Sophos Ltd.)
Sophos has revised its security portfolio and is providing significantly more transparency in the areas of endpoint protection and detection & response with a new product structure.
Uniform designations instead of product diversity
The aim of the reorganization is to standardize the previously fragmented designations for endpoint, server and detection & response solutions. The new core products are now:
* Sophos Endpoint
* Sophos EDR
* Sophos XDR
* Sophos MDR
The Intercept X nomenclature used to date will be gradually replaced. Customers will benefit from a more intuitive assignment of license levels, better comparability and clearer communication.
Sophos Endpoint & Sophos XDR replace Intercept X Advanced
The central change is the renaming of _Intercept X Advanced_ to Sophos Endpoint:
* Sophos Intercept X Advanced becomes Sophos Endpoint – User
* Sophos Intercept X Advanced for Server becomes Sophos Endpoint – Server
Intercept X Advanced with XDR will also be renamed as part of the reorganization – in future the extended detection and response solution will be called Sophos XDR:
* Sophos Intercept X Advanced with XDR becomes Sophos XDR – User
* Sophos Intercept X Advanced for Server with XDR becomes Sophos XDR – Server
Technically, the full range of functions – including CryptoGuard, Deep Learning, Anti-Ransomware, Exploit Protection and Web Filter – will be retained. However, the Essentials licenses will be removed from the portfolio and will expire at the end of 2025.
New license: Sophos EDR
With Sophos EDR, Sophos is introducing a new intermediate level between classic endpoint protection and XDR. The solution is suitable for organizations that want to manage their IT security themselves and investigate security incidents internally. The intuitive operation via Sophos Central is retained.
Sophos EDR offers:
* True detection & response functionality on endpoints and servers
* AI-supported analysis tools such as the Sophos AI Core
* An ideal entry into proactive threat detection without 24/7 operation
* Sophos XDR and MDR now with free integrations
Sophos XDR and MDR third party integrations now free of charge
The Sophos XDR and Sophos MDR solutions offer special added value for existing and new customers: both licenses now include third-party integration packs – free of charge and as standard. This enables the seamless integration of:
* Microsoft 365
* Firewalls and network sensors
* Cloud platforms
* SIEM systems
This provides an extended view of security-relevant events in heterogeneous IT environments – at no additional cost.
Goal: Overview, scalability and easy access
With the changeover, Sophos is pursuing a long-term strategy to make its product portfolio more transparent and scalable. The clear separation between Endpoint, EDR, XDR and MDR facilitates both consulting by partners and the introduction in Sophos Central for new customers.
