The foundation’s name, ‘Labor and Honor,’ carries personal significance. ‘Labore et Honore,’ from the Clarke family crest, represents hard work and integrity-values instilled in James from childhood and deeply resonating with Andrea’s own upbringing as the daughter of public school teachers.

“I initially felt underprepared to lead in the nonprofit space, so I pursued a Master’s in Nonprofit Management from Columbia University,” she explains. “Applying to an Ivy League school after years away from college was daunting, but earning that degree shaped me both personally and professionally.”
Her deep respect for education and lifelong learning stems from her parents’ legacy as teachers, which continues to influence her leadership philosophy.
