(“ECOCE”) has adva ced to the ext phase followi g completio of Phase 1 feedstock mappi g a d st eam selectio . Selected post-co sume flexible plastic packagi g st eams i Mexico a e ow movi g i to a Hyd ochemolytic™ Tech ology (“HCT”) test campaig to evaluate thei co ve sio i to liquid hyd oca bo p oducts fo dow st eam ci cula plastics applicatio s.

The collabo atio , a ou ced i Decembe 2025, is st uctu ed as a phased, data-d ive evaluatio of flexible plastic packagi g collected th ough ecove y systems i Mexico. Phase 1 d ew o ECOCE’s o goi g atio al feedstock mappi g p og am, co ducted fo its membe compa ies, f om which the pa ties completed the selectio of ca didate mate ial st eams fo the ext stage of wo k. Led by ECOCE, the mappi g ide tified multiple post-co sume flexible packagi g st eams a d assessed them fo estimated availability, collectio outes, physical fo m, co tami atio p ofile, a d p epa atio equi eme ts. The wo k ide tified ca didate st eams with sufficie t available volume to suppo t a i dust ially eleva t evaluatio a d with mate ial cha acte istics that wa a t adva ceme t to HCT testi g.

Flexible plastic packagi g is o e of the most difficult mate ial catego ies to ma age withi existi g ecycli g systems. These st eams ca i clude polyethyle e, polyp opyle e, a d multilaye packagi g fo mats, alo g with i ks, adhesives, mixed st uctu es, small fo mats, a d va yi g levels of co tami atio . I li e with the waste hie a chy, eductio , euse, a d mecha ical ecycli g emai p efe ed optio s whe e they a e tech ically a d eco omically viable. Fo flexible packagi g st eams that a e ot well suited to mecha ical o physical ecycli g, the collabo atio is evaluati g whethe HCT ca p ovide a oute to ecove hyd oca bo value f om these mate ials a d help etu them to the plastics value chai .

ECOCE has ide tified flexible plastic packagi g as a majo a d g owi g mate ial catego y i Mexico, with available data i dicati g that app oximately 1.5 millio to es of flexible plastic packagi g a e ge e ated a ually i the cou t y. Phase 1 has built o that ma ket co text by mappi g ca didate flexible a d multilaye plastic packagi g waste st eams, i cludi g mate ial catego ies, collectio outes, geog aphic sou ci g, a d i dicative co tami atio levels. The mate ials mapped th ough Phase 1 i clude flexible polyp opyle e packagi g, flexible polyethyle e packagi g, a d multilaye flexible packagi g, i cludi g commo post-co sume fo mats such as s ack a d cookie w appe s, g oce y a d b ead bags, seed a d g ai packagi g, pet food packagi g, cold-cut a d dai y packagi g, a d esealable pouch fo mats.

The objective is to build a evide ce-based u de sta di g of how selected flexible packagi g st eams ca move th ough a ci cula value chai : f om post-co sume collectio a d cha acte izatio , th ough feedstock p epa atio a d HCT co ve sio , to liquid hyd oca bo p oducts fo evaluatio by pet ochemical a d polyme value chai s.

With Phase 1 complete a d the ext-phase testi g p og am defi ed, the collabo atio ow moves i to HCT testi g of selected mate ial st eams. Adu o will begi with lab-scale evaluatio to assess how selected Mexica flexible a d multilaye plastic waste st eams espo d to HCT, i cludi g p ocessability, p oduct cha acte istics, yield, esidues, co tami a t behaviou , a d mass bala ce. As pa t of this ext phase, Ad iá Velasco, Di ecto of Flexible Plastic Packagi g at ECOCE, will visit Adu o facilities to eview the testi g pathway, sample equi eme ts, a d pilot-scale developme t p og am. The visit will help alig ECOCE’s k owledge of ecove y systems i Mexico with the Compa y’s tech ical evaluatio p ocess as selected st eams move f om feedstock mappi g i to HCT testi g. Successful lab-scale esults will i fo m p og essio to Phase 3 testi g o the Next Ge e atio P ocess (“NGP”) Pilot Pla t to suppo t scale-up assessme t, custome evaluatio , a d futu e comme cial a alysis.
