Marquis Who’s Who Honors Morgan Dowell for Expertise in Healthcare Information Technology
Morgan Dowell, co-founder and principal architect of Saga IT, recognized for two decades in software engineering and deep specialization in healthcare integration, HL7, FHIR, and DICOM interoperability, and open-source tooling.
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, June 23, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ — Morgan Dowell has been included in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Morgan Dowell is co-founder and principal architect of Saga IT, a healthcare technology firm he and Jesse Dowell established in 2016. Across more than two decades in software engineering, he has built his career at the intersection of clinical systems and interoperability, with deep expertise in the standards that move healthcare data — HL7, FHIR, and DICOM. At Saga IT, his work spans solution design, system architecture, software development, and client delivery — everything from custom healthcare applications to complex systems integration — for hospitals, medical-device companies, and digital-health startups.
Mr. Dowell’s current focus is OpenShare™, a Saga IT product — now in beta — that makes medical image and data sharing dramatically more affordable for healthcare institutions. The stakes in the category are considerable: when Microsoft acquired Nuance Communications — owner of the PowerShare image-sharing network — for $19.7 billion in 2022, the deal underscored both the value of medical data exchange and the cost of the platforms that dominate it. OpenShare is built as an open, lower-cost alternative, intended to widen access for the many institutions priced out of incumbent offerings.
That open philosophy runs throughout Mr. Dowell’s work. Saga IT is an active contributor to the open-source healthcare-integration community: the firm develops MirthSync, a widely adopted tool for version-controlling Mirth Connect deployments that has earned 96 stars and 33 forks on GitHub. His team also contributes to the Open Integration Engine, a community-governed open-source fork of Mirth Connect created after NextGen moved the project to a closed-source commercial license in 2025, which keeps the technology freely available to healthcare organizations worldwide.
His consulting record spans a broad client base — medical-device manufacturers, hospitals and health systems, and digital-health companies — on engagements across the United States and internationally. Mr. Dowell has led integration, connectivity, and software-delivery work supporting product launches and clinical deployments, including for Medicrea, the spinal-technology company later acquired by Medtronic.
Before co-founding Saga IT, Mr. Dowell spent more than a decade in software architecture and engineering roles across federal and healthcare technology programs, including work with the National Institutes of Health and Booz Allen Hamilton. He began his career in HL7 integration — the healthcare-standards work that has shaped his focus ever since.
Looking ahead, Mr. Dowell is focused on advancing OpenShare from beta to general release and expanding Saga IT’s role in healthcare interoperability. He credits the firm’s results to persistence and a willingness to take on hard problems, noting that a small, focused team has repeatedly delivered outsized impact for its clients — the same conviction now driving Saga IT’s effort to make healthcare data sharing more open and accessible for institutions nationwide.
