The Bolt-234CGH delivers 2.3MP color imaging with simultaneous global shutter precision and VCM-based autofocus across a dual-mode 2-lane and 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 interface, purpose-built for robotics systems, AGV platforms, UAV deployments, smart city infrastructure and kiosk integrations where distortion-free capture and adaptive focus have historically required separate hardware or fixed-focus compromises, delivering 1080p and VGA color output with global shutter accuracy and low operational power in a compact 38mm x 38mm form factor.

FORT WORTH, TX / ACCESS Newswire / April 30, 2026 / Vadzo Imaging, a global provider of embedded vision camera products, today announces the launch of the Bolt-234CGH AR0234 Global Shutter Autofocus MIPI Camera, a 2.3MP color global shutter MIPI CSI-2 camera with integrated VCM-based autofocus built on the Onsemi AR0234 sensor. The Bolt-234CGH expands Vadzo’s Bolt Series MIPI camera portfolio and brings together color global shutter imaging, software-controlled autofocus and low operational power in a single compact module that connects directly to embedded SoCs via MIPI CSI-2 without the latency and power overhead of USB controller circuits.

SENSOR AND CAMERA OVERVIEW

The Bolt-234CGH is built on the Onsemi AR0234 sensor, a 1/2.6″ BSI CMOS image sensor with a 3.0 µm pixel pitch delivering a maximum resolution of 2MP (1920 x 1200). The backside illuminated architecture improves light collection per pixel and reduces read noise, supporting reliable color output in environments with variable or reduced ambient lighting. The sensor delivers natural color reproduction suitable for computer vision inference pipelines including object detection, classification and tracking at VGA, 720p, and 1080p frame rates.

On the camera side, the Bolt-234CGH AR0234 vcm mipi csi-2 camera connects directly to the host SoC via a 2-lane or 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 interface, enabling low-latency image data transfer without USB controller overhead. VCM-based autofocus with an M12 (S-Mount) lens mount adapts the focal point in real time across variable working distances, with two field-of-view variants available: 74-degree DFOV and 32-degree DFOV. The camera operates across -40 degrees C to 85 degrees C and weighs 13 grams without a lens. The module measures 38mm x 38mm with an option to reconfigure 32mm x 32mm for tighter mechanical footprints. The Bolt-234CGH carries RoHS3 and REACH conformity.

Key specs: 2MP (1920×1200) | Onsemi AR0234 1/2.6″ | 3.0 µm x 3.0 µm | Color Global Shutter | VCM Autofocus | S Mount Lens | 2-Lane and 4-Lane MIPI CSI-2 | -40C to 85C | 38mm x 38mm | RoHS3 and REACH Compliant

KEY CAPABILITIES OF THE Bolt-234CGH: AR0234 VCM AUTOFOCUS MIPI CSI-2 CAMERA

Global Shutter Imaging: Rolling shutter sensors read image data sequentially row by row. When the subject or the platform is in motion, each row is captured at a slightly different instant which produces skew and geometric distortion that undermines measurement accuracy and AI inference reliability. Global shutter sensors expose every pixel at the same moment, and the Onsemi AR0234 camera captures the complete 2MP frame in a single unified exposure, delivering a geometrically consistent image regardless of motion speed or direction. This makes the global shutter MIPI camera essential for AGV navigation, conveyor-based automated inspection, robotic pick-and-place systems, and aerial imaging from UAVs where motion is a constant and geometric accuracy is non-negotiable. For a broader look at how global shutter camera products perform in industrial automation, Vadzo’s reference guide covers the leading options across sensor types and interfaces.

VCM-Based Autofocus: Fixed-focus modules require manual recalibration whenever the working distance changes. VCM autofocus drives the lens along the optical axis using a voice coil motor maintaining focus accuracy in real time as the subject distance varies. For kiosk and retail applications, this means the camera adapts to every user interaction distance without operator adjustment. For inspection systems handling components of varying heights it means focus continuity across the full production run. For robotic platforms where the camera-to-subject distance changes during operation, VCM autofocus eliminates the fixed working distance assumptions that constrain system design. Vadzo’s guide on what autofocus is and how VCM technology functions provides a detailed explanation for engineers evaluating autofocus specifications.

2-Lane and 4-Lane MIPI CSI-2 Dual Interface Support: The MIPI CSI-2 interface creates a direct electrical connection between the image sensor and the host processor, eliminating the USB controller circuit that adds latency and power consumption in USB-based deployments. The Bolt-234CGH supports both 2-lane MIPI CSI-2 and 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 configurations, letting design engineers select the lane count that matches their target SoC and bandwidth requirements. As a 1080p autofocus MIPI camera the Bolt-234CGH streams at full 1080p resolution over MIPI CSI-2 supporting real-time AI inference on Raspberry Pi and NVIDIA Jetson platforms without compression or bandwidth bottlenecks.

Low Operational Power: Battery-operated UAV platforms, compact kiosk enclosures and edge AI devices all share a common design constraint where every milliwatt has to be justified. The Bolt-234CGH is engineered for low operational power reducing thermal load and extending battery endurance in power-sensitive deployments. As a low power MIPI camera, it fits into always-on system architectures where the camera operates continuously without creating a thermal or power management problem for the host board. This makes it a practical 2MP autofocus MIPI camera choice for UAV, robotics, and smart city deployments where energy efficiency affects system endurance or certification margins.

“The AR0234 has always been a sensor engineers reach for when they need global shutter reliability at 1080p in a compact form factor. What was missing was autofocus. Fixed working distances are a real constraint in robotics and kiosk deployments, and engineers were working around it with mechanical solutions or accepting the limitation entirely. The Bolt-234CGH ar0234 vcm camera removes that constraint by pairing VCM autofocus directly with the global shutter sensor in a MIPI form factor that fits the platforms our customers are already building on. That combination in a module of this size and at this power level is what makes it worth talking about.” – Alwin Vincent, Product Manager, Vadzo Imaging

APPLICATIONS

Robotics and Autonomous Systems: Robotic pick-and-place systems, AMR navigation, visual servoing and AGV guidance require images that are geometrically accurate at production speeds. The combination of global shutter and VCM autofocus makes the Bolt-234CGH a strong robotics camera and AGV camera choice for industrial environments where subject motion and working distance both vary continuously. The ar0234 global shutter autofocus MIPI camera addresses both requirements in a single MIPI module without additional hardware.

UAV and Aerial Platforms: At 13 grams without a lens, the Bolt-234CGH fits within the payload constraints of small to mid-size UAV platforms. The global shutter architecture eliminates rolling shutter skew that appears in aerial images during forward flight, which is a consistent quality problem in drone inspection and photogrammetry workflows. VCM autofocus maintains image sharpness as altitude and subject distance change and low operational power reduces draw on the onboard battery directly extending flight endurance. These characteristics make the Bolt-234CGH a practical drone camera and UAV camera for inspection, mapping, surveillance and precision agriculture applications where both geometric fidelity and weight efficiency are design requirements.

Smart City and Surveillance: Traffic monitoring, license plate recognition, pedestrian flow analysis and intersection surveillance require consistent high-resolution color output under variable outdoor lighting at real-time frame rates. The Bolt-234CGH delivers a smart city camera module connecting directly to edge inference platforms via MIPI CSI-2 with global shutter precision and autofocus adaptability. The 1080p global shutter camera output eliminates motion artifacts in high-traffic scenes that rolling shutter camera products consistently introduce.

Kiosk and Digital Signage: Self-checkout, healthcare kiosk, visitor management and information terminal deployments require compact modules that perform across a wide range of user interaction distances and ambient lighting conditions. As a kiosk camera, the Bolt-234CGH uses VCM autofocus to adapt to each interaction distance without operator adjustment during installation. The compact 38mm x 38mm footprint and low power operation further simplify enclosure design for kiosk and digital signage applications where space and thermal management are both constrained.

Medical Devices and Pathology: Compact size, low power and global shutter fidelity make the Bolt-234CGH suitable for use within medical device architectures including pathology imaging, patient monitoring and portable diagnostic systems. Vadzo provides driver development support and platform porting assistance for custom medical integrations. Its broader medical device camera portfolio spans multiple sensor and interface options for system designers with specific resolution, dynamic range, or form factor requirements. The ar0234 autofocus MIPI color camera brings together the imaging performance and interface flexibility that compact medical device architectures increasingly require.

Platform Integration With Embedded Vision Systems

The Bolt-234CGH is validated for integration with Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson Nano, and NVIDIA Xavier NX. For additional embedded platforms including NXP i.MX, STM32 and MediaTek-based SoCs Vadzo’s engineering team can assist with driver porting and system bring-up. As part of Vadzo’s broader MIPI camera portfolio, the Bolt-234CGH gives OEM development teams a production-tested module with active firmware support rather than a bare-sensor integration challenge. There is no minimum order quantity for evaluation samples which supports prototype development timelines without procurement constraints. For a complete overview of the MIPI CSI-2 interface and how it compares with other embedded camera interfaces Vadzo’s guide on what a MIPI camera is and how the CSI-2 interface works is a useful technical reference.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q1: Why is the AR0234 VCM Autofocus MIPI color camera the right choice for AGV and robotics applications?

A: AGV and robotics deployments present two imaging challenges that fixed-focus rolling shutter modules cannot address together. First, moving platforms and fast-moving subjects create geometric distortion when using rolling shutter sensors. The Onsemi AR0234 camera’s global shutter architecture resolves this by exposing every pixel at the same instant delivering undistorted frames regardless of platform or subject velocity. Second, working distances in robotic environments change continuously. VCM autofocus maintains focus accuracy without manual intervention or line stoppage. Vadzo’s Bolt-234CGH brings both capabilities into a single compact ar0234 vcm global shutter camera module making it the recommended choice for demanding embedded industrial vision. Teams that need the same sensor performance over USB 3.0 can consider Vadzo’s AR0234 global shutter autofocus USB camera which adds UVC plug-and-play compatibility for host-based deployments.

Q2: Can the autofocus MIPI CSI-2 camera meet the weight and power requirements of UAV platforms?

A: Yes. The Bolt-234CGH weighs 13 grams without a lens which falls within the weight budget of most small to mid-sized commercial UAVs. Low operational power reduces battery draw directly extending flight endurance. The global shutter eliminates rolling shutter artifacts that appear during forward flight, improving output quality for inspection and mapping workflows. VCM autofocus adapts to changing altitude and subject distance maintaining image sharpness through the entire flight mission. These are the defining requirements for a reliable drone camera and Vadzo’s ar0234 vcm autofocus mipi color camera addresses all of them in an OEM-ready module with no minimum order requirement for evaluation.

Q3: Does Vadzo provide driver support and platform assistance for MIPI CSI-2 camera integration?

A: Vadzo provides validated integration support for Raspberry Pi and selective NVIDIA Jetson platforms as standard. For additional platforms including NXP i.MX, STM32 and MediaTek SoCs, Vadzo’s engineering team supports driver porting and system bring-up on request. Evaluation samples ship without minimum order requirements, and Vadzo’s team is available through both the prototype and production phases of integration. This support model is a core part of what Vadzo offers across its MIPI camera portfolio making it possible for engineering teams to reach production-ready integration significantly faster than a bare-sensor bring-up approach allows. Vadzo also supports hardware customization and firmware modification for OEM-specific requirements.

Q4: What FOV options are available, and can the lens be replaced with a custom optic?

A: The Bolt-234CGH ships with two standard FOV variants: 74-degree DFOV and 32-degree DFOV. Both use an S-Mount (M12) lens holder which is a widely available standard mount that permits lens replacement with any compatible S-Mount optic. The wide-angle variant is suited for kiosk and retail installations with short interaction distances. The narrow-angle variant is better suited for longer-distance inspection and surveillance use cases where subject detail at range is the priority. Vadzo can assist with lens compatibility assessments including LSC and vignetting correction requirements for custom optic integrations.

Q5: Is the 1080p global shutter camera compliant with RoHS3 and REACH regulations?

A: Yes. The Bolt-234CGH carries RoHS3 and REACH conformity covering material and substance compliance requirements for markets in the EU and other regulated regions.
