Key Capabilities of the Onsemi AR0246 2MP Color Rolling Shutter MIPI CSI-2 HDR Camera

High Sensitivity Rolling Shutter with HyperLux Architecture: Conventional rolling shutter sensors read pixel data row by row which can introduce skew artifacts in fast motion scenarios. While this is a known characteristic of rolling shutter designs, the Onsemi AR0246 HyperLux LH improves sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio through its advanced pixel architecture, maximizing light collection efficiency and reducing readout noise without altering rolling shutter behavior. The HyperLux design delivers higher signal to noise ratio compared to conventional rolling shutter sensors making the AR0246 rolling shutter MIPI camera a high performance choice for robotics camera products, AGV camera systems and industrial MIPI camera deployments where image quality under variable lighting is a primary requirement. The AR0246’s high quantum efficiency enables reliable imaging across indoor, outdoor and low ambient light scenarios without sacrificing frame rate or resolution.

Embedded HDR for High Contrast Scene Imaging: Many embedded vision deployments happen in environments with simultaneous bright highlights and deep shadows like factory floors with overhead lighting, outdoor traffic monitoring scenes or medical imaging environments with mixed illumination. The Bolt-246CRS AR0246 MIPI camera integrates multi exposure HDR directly within the sensor pipeline enabling high dynamic range capture without external frame blending or software side post processing overhead. This embedded HDR capability makes the Bolt-246CRS 2MP MIPI CSI-2 camera well suited for traffic monitoring camera products capturing vehicles transitioning between tunnels and open roads, industrial inspection camera deployments requiring consistent imaging across lit and shadowed surfaces and kiosk MIPI camera installations subject to changing ambient conditions. For applications requiring extended dynamic range beyond the AR0246’s native HDR range, Vadzo’s HDR MIPI camera series offers complementary options with up to 140 dB dynamic range across the Bolt portfolio.

Native Color Output with AR0246 Color Sensor: The AR0246 color sensor integrates a Bayer pattern RGB filter array directly on the pixel array and produces native color output. This native color imaging capability is essential for kiosk MIPI camera deployments requiring accurate color reproduction. It is equally critical for traffic monitoring camera systems performing license plate and vehicle color classification and for medical MIPI camera applications requiring true tissue color rendering. Video surveillance camera and security camera installations benefit directly since color differentiation impacts object identification accuracy.

Multi Resolution Output: The Bolt-246CRS AR0246 MIPI camera supports selectable output resolutions. Full 1080p mode delivers maximum detail at the sensor’s native 2MP resolution. The 720p MIPI camera mode offers balanced throughput and bandwidth. VGA MIPI camera mode is suited for resource constrained embedded deployments. This flexibility allows a single camera module to serve across diverse application tiers. Engineers can run full resolution for high resolution industrial MIPI camera inspection or step down to lightweight edge AI inference pipelines on Raspberry Pi and Nvidia Jetson Nano platforms at reduced resolutions.

Platform Integration via MIPI CSI-2: The AR0246 2MP MIPI CSI-2 camera use the MIPI CSI-2 interface to connect directly with the CSI-2 receivers built into leading embedded SoCs. The camera has been validated on Raspberry Pi, Nvidia Jetson Nano and Nvidia Xavier NX platforms with Linux driver support. For other platforms including NXP i.MX, STM and MediaTek Vadzo’s engineering team provides platform bring up support. The 2-board design with separate adapter boards covers both 2 lane and 4 lane MIPI connectors, so the same camera module works across different carrier boards.

Compact 2 Board S Mount Form Factor: The Bolt-246CRS ships as a 2-board solution with a compact 38mm x 38mm footprint. The S Mount (M12) lens mount supports standard M12 threaded optics from wide angle lenses for UAV MIPI camera aerial coverage to narrow field optics for precision measurement. This compact footprint enables integration into space constrained platforms including drone MIPI camera payloads, robotics camera head assemblies, kiosks and wearable medical MIPI camera devices. Standard M12 threading ensures lens interchangeability across the Vadzo Imaging product portfolio.

“The AR0246 HyperLux LH sensor opens a capability tier that has been difficult to access in compact embedded camera form factors. High sensitivity rolling shutter with embedded HDR in a MIPI CSI-2 camera gives embedded vision engineers color imaging performance that previously required larger, more complex camera subsystems. The Bolt-246CRS was designed to bring that combination to standard development platforms. By pairing the AR0246’s native color HDR output with a validated MIPI CSI-2 interface and Linux drivers for Raspberry Pi, Nvidia Jetson Nano and Nvidia Xavier NX we are enabling teams to move from evaluation to production without redesigning their platform stack.” – Alwin Vincent, Product Manager, Vadzo Imaging.

Applications

Robotics and Autonomous Systems: For pick and place operations, visual servoing and robotic guidance, the Bolt-246CRS delivers high sensitivity native color imaging in dynamic environments. The Onsemi AR0246 HyperLux LH rolling shutter camera provides excellent low light performance for robotics camera products and AGV camera systems operating under variable factory lighting. Embedded HDR ensures reliable part identification and navigation landmark detection across scenes with mixed illumination where conventional cameras would require exposure compromises.
