The 19th annual Animal Action event – the Animal Action Film Festival – will be at Currumbin RSL on October 5 to inspire conservation of our wildlife and the environment.
The short film festival/ speaker panel will celebrate beautiful and iconic wildlife, marine life and animal species during World Animal Week from October 1 to 7.
The special Gold Coast community event follows World Animal Day, sometimes referred to as world Animal Welfare Day or World Animal Protection Day – an annual event on October 4, celebrating animal rights and welfare across the globe.
“These films show the beauty of life on our planet but also we can’t ignore the fact they also raise the truth about what is affecting the survival of many of nature’s wonderful inhabitants,” Ms Sutherland said.
It will also cover critical topics including the crisis of our ecosystems, the high levels of marine deaths, polluted rivers, deforestation, uncontrolled corporate plans and the demise of environmental laws and standards.
“We will be investigating what’s causing the ecological collapse and unprecedented demise of iconic Australian species and their food chain,” she said.
World-renowned film makers Lin Sutherland and Lynn Santer have dedicated their lives to fight for wildlife and their films have travelled the world and won multiple international film awards.
We will showcase several short films from Lin Sutherland’s archives about the beauty of Australian wildlife, including Brumby’s Last Stand (supported by Foundation Franz Weber).
A moving short film that has been over 20 years in the making, called Land of the Free, by Lynn Santer will showcase the brutality and crisis of trophy hunting of endangered species.
The multi award-winning documentary has been supported by celebrities including Priscilla Presley, Tippi Hedren and Cliff Simon.
We will also show some other films that focus on the beauty and threats facing iconic Australian wildlife and marine life stories, covering the likes of koalas, bats, birds and the entire ecological chain.
Other guest film makers and wildlife experts will be joining us to share their knowledge and expertise.
These include Lynn Santer – Owner / co-producer – Land of the Free Movie; Jenni Abbott – Founder Aussie Wildlife Limited; Jemma Lee – Ambassador Aussie Wildlife Limited; Doc Dayman – nature expert, runs The Bush Clinic – been a forensic scientist; Daniel Brimblecombe – entrepreneur standing for responsible dog ownership; Aldwyn Altuney – Animal Action Events Founder/ Media Queen and Lin Sutherland – Filmmaker/ Producer/ wildlife expert.
“Many of Australia’s wildlife and marine life have suffered monumental loss and in the last few years, the rate of extinction has skyrocketed,” Ms Sutherland said.
The community are invited to help us turn the tide and band together for the health of the planet and these iconic species while supporting some fantastic animal causes.
Some proceeds from donations and raffles will go to various animal charities including Aussie Wildlife Limited.
The world’s first Animal Action Day was founded by media personality Aldwyn Altuney on the Gold Coast in 2007 after years of seeing animal cruelty and wanting to inspire more action for animals.
“The Animal Action Events are about raising awareness, appreciation and respect for all animals,” Ms Altuney said.
“If we all do something for animals, we can make a great difference. This will be a fun, inspiring and transformational event. Come along to be informed and empowered to save our planet and animals for future generations.”
The event will be held at Currumbin RSL on October 5 from 4pm to 7.30pm. To book or for more details, visit: https://linktr.ee/aldwyn or https://www.travelwildtv.com/
