Originally from Colombia, Mr. Barrios Amaya immigrated to the United States in 2021. Prior to his relocation, he worked as a cybersecurity senior sales engineer for Latin America at HP from 2021 to 2022. In that capacity, he leveraged his technical acumen to support clients across the region. Before joining HP, he was the cloud security strategy manager at B-SECURE from 2020 to 2021, where he developed strategies to enhance cloud security measures, and served as the sales engineering director for Latin America at Aranda Software from 2018 to 2020, leading initiatives that drove regional growth.
Mr. Barrios Amaya’s earlier career included significant roles such as sales engineering manager for Latin America at Digiware from 2016 to 2018 and senior sales engineer at the same company from 2015 to 2016. His journey in cybersecurity began after a successful tenure in information technology management at Telefonica Colombia, where he held positions including information technology operations manager from 2014 to 2015 and lead information technology specialist from 2012 to 2014. Initially, Mr. Barrios Amaya’s foundational experience as a data center operations manager from 2007 to 2012 laid the groundwork for his transition into cybersecurity. His technology career started in 2004 when he began working as a developer, giving him more than 20 years of combined experience across the technology, cybersecurity, and information security fields today.
In addition to his corporate roles, Mr. Barrios Amaya co-founded Hunt, a cybersecurity awareness company, where he was the sales engineering director from 2019 to 2021. His membership with the Colorado Chapter of the International Information System Security Certification Consortium reflects his standing in the industry.
Educationally, Mr. Barrios Amaya holds a Master of Science in information security from the University of the Andes, where he graduated in 2013, as well as a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering from Manuela Beltrán University. Complimenting his degrees, he completed telecommunications management coursework at Siemens Professional Education in 2007 and holds several certifications. He is certified in cybersecurity from the International Information System Security Certification Consortium, is an AWS-certified cloud practitioner from Amazon Web Services, and is currently pursuing certification as an information systems security professional, among others.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Barrios Amaya is deeply influenced by both the remarkable individuals he has encountered throughout his career and all the wonderful people who have supported and taught him in countless ways. This diverse network of mentors, colleagues, friends, and family has been pivotal in shaping his path and inspiring him to pursue his current endeavors. Outside of his professional life, Mr. Barrios Amaya volunteers with his Catholic church and quietly contributes to various causes around the world through different forms of donation and support. This reflects his deep commitment to community service and helping others without seeking recognition. He cherishes spending quality time with his wife, daughter, and their dog. His diverse interests include pranic healing through the Institute for Inner Studies, FPV drone piloting, basketball, biking, and video games.
