Mr. Wells has established a distinguished career as a control system engineer at Savannah River National Laboratory, where he has been contributing his expertise since 2021. Battelle Savannah River Alliance LLC became the managing company in June of 2021. Mr. Wells has contributed his expertise to the Savannah River National Laboratory mission since December 2017 but under the management of Savannah River Nuclear Solutions until June of 2021. In this role, he applies his extensive knowledge in software development and LiDAR systems, which has been instrumental in advancing the laboratory’s technological capabilities. His dedication to his field is further exemplified by his active membership in the American Nuclear Society since 2020 and the International Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) since 2017.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Wells served as a research and development engineer at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions in Aiken, South Carolina, from 2017 to 2021. During this period, he also held the role of process control and automation engineer for one year. His work at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions was marked by significant contributions to the development of innovative solutions in nuclear technology.
Mr. Wells’ career began with a focus on research and development at the Nebraska Intelligent Mobile Unmanned Systems Laboratory, where he worked from 2015 to 2016. This role allowed him to hone his skills in cutting-edge technologies and laid the groundwork for his future achievements. Additionally, he gained valuable experience as a staff member at the Math Tutorial Center at the University of Tennessee in 2013, where he supported students in their academic pursuits.
Before embarking on his civilian career, Mr. Wells served with distinction in the U.S. Navy from 2006 to 2012. As a propulsion plant local area network administrator from 2010 to 2012 and a nuclear electronics technician throughout his service, he developed a strong foundation in technical operations and leadership.
Mr. Wells’ academic background includes a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, completed in 2016. Prior to this, he earned a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 2014.
In addition to his professional roles, Mr. Wells has made significant contributions to the field through publications, such as “Savannah River Site H-Canyon Collaborative Advanced Technology Demonstration (ATD) Program Review 18313,” published in Waste Management (Nuclear) in 2019. His scholarly work was recognized with a Best Paper Award in 2023, underscoring his impact on nuclear waste management research.
In his personal life, Mr. Wells enjoys running and reading as hobbies. Looking back on his career, he attributes much of his success to determination and hard work, qualities that have propelled him through various challenges and opportunities throughout his career.
