Currently, she serves as a principal concept-to-delivery consultant at SEI, where she has been instrumental since 2022. In this role, she collaborates with clients to transform their ideas into impactful outcomes, regardless of the project’s complexity or size. Her expertise in learning design, business processes, change management, software product management, project management methodologies and systematic adaptation of strategies to meet SEI client needs has established her as a prominent leader in her field.
Since 2019, Dr. McDonald has also been an adjunct professor at George Mason University, teaching graduate-level courses in the Masters in Learning Design and Technology Program. She draws on her extensive experience in educational technology product development to lead courses such as eLearning Applications, Project Management/Agile Product Management and The Business of Learning Design. Her commitment to education is evident through her dedication to nurturing the next generation of professionals.
Most recently Dr. McDonald moderated a panel titled “Exploring the Future: Generative AI in AR/VR for Industry Applications,” industry experts at George Mason University’s Immersive Technologies (IM-TECH) Conference in September, 2024.
Prior to her current roles, Dr. McDonald was the director of learning product development at Academic Partnerships from 2020 to 2022. From 2012 to 2019, she held the position of director of product management at Pearson Schoolnet and was the director of instructional systems design for Pearson’s K-12 Division from 2007 to 2012. Earlier in her career, she was a supervising technology project editor for customization and mathematics at Pearson from 2004 to 2007 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in learning technologies and education at Harvard University from 2002 to 2004.
Dr. McDonald’s academic achievements have significantly contributed to her professional success. She earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Notre Dame in 1995, followed by a Master of Arts in nonprofit management from American University in 1998. She obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in education specializing in instructional technology and design from George Mason University in 2003. Additionally, she is a certified scrum product owner through Scrum Alliance Inc., earned in 2013.
Her passion for fostering strong relationships with colleagues and her genuine respect for others have been pivotal in her achievements. Dr. McDonald attributes much of her success to these values and the unwavering support of her family, which has allowed her to maintain a harmonious work-life balance.
Dr. McDonald is actively involved in various civic organizations. She has served as an advisory member for Women in Leadership at the University of Colorado since 2024 and has been president of the Friends of the South Shore Country Club since 2021. Additionally, she has been part of the Fordham Parent Ambassador Committee since 2021 and has served as a coach for Hingham Youth Field Hockey from 2018 – 2020. Her long-standing commitment includes being a cantor at Hingham Resurrection Parish from 2006-2020 and previously serving as parent president for Webbs Tornadoes Swim Team from 2018 to 2021.
Dr. McDonald’s contributions extend to academic publications and presentations. Notable works include contributions to “How to Structure an Online Discussion: A Case Study,” published in the British Journal of Educational Technology in 2005, and several proposals accepted for presentation at prestigious conferences such as the Association for Educational Communications and Technology Conference and the American Education Research Association Conference.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Dr. McDonald enjoys singing and is the President of the Hingham Singers Community choir and a member of the Hingham Rock and Roll Consortium. Looking ahead, she is dedicated to taking a more active role in the Women in Leadership organization, sharing valuable lessons and experiences gained throughout her career. She aims to increase her involvement in teaching and mentoring aspiring leaders and use her knowledge and experiences to empower others.
