Prior to joining Google, Mr. Ostapenko directed software engineering initiatives at NYULMC on behalf of Apex Systems from 2016 to 2018. During this period, he developed innovative solutions for processing sensitive documents and ensuring the seamless integration of diverse applications. Before his time at Apex, from 2006 to 2015, he pursued independent research in computer science, focusing extensively on Boolean satisfiability and related NP-hard problems. Over this decade-long endeavor, he designed advanced algorithms, sparse data structures, and sophisticated heuristics to enhance the performance of satisfiability solvers and symmetry detectors.
From 2000 to 2015, Mr. Ostapenko concurrently undertook freelance software engineering projects, applying his expertise across a wide range of technical domains. His work encompassed building an advanced graph visualization tool capable of handling millions of data points, implementing secure communication mechanisms for web applications, designing low-level systems and frameworks, and employing artificial neural networks for price forecasting in automated trading systems.
Mr. Ostapenko’s academic background has served as a strong foundation for his professional accomplishments. He completed a PhD program in theoretical foundations of informatics in 2009, earned a Master of Science in informatics in 2006, and obtained a Bachelor of Science in computer systems and networks with honors in 2005, all from the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics.
In addition to receiving multiple academic accolades, Mr. Ostapenko has earned recognition through notable achievements in algorithmic competitions and professional evaluations. He consistently performed in the top percentile in competitive programming events and secured first place in a TopCoder NYC contest in 2016. He has also obtained numerous certifications, including master-level qualifications in C++, C#, and MS SQL from Brainbench, as well as a certificate of proficiency in English from the University of Cambridge.
Mr. Ostapenko credits much of his success to his mother’s unwavering love and support during his formative years, viewing her role as instrumental in his educational and research pursuits. After moving to the United States in 2015, he began a new life chapter largely on his own, recognizing and appreciating the numerous opportunities available to those willing to put in the effort.
Looking to the future, Mr. Ostapenko plans to develop his newly founded company, Satryx, pursuing two distinct ventures. One aims to address compensation gaps for open-source contributors, thereby supporting developers who advance the collective technological landscape. The other focuses on advancing optimization techniques in computer science, pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence solutions.
