SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ, August 12, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ — Heather Spetalnick has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Spetalnick has built a successful career in the technology sector and currently serves as a Principal Technical Program Manager at Amazon, where she leads cross-functional initiatives for Prime Video. Promoted to Principal in 2024, she has played a key role in delivering next-generation search and co-viewing experiences by leveraging AI, large language models, and advanced machine learning. Among her accomplishments, she led efforts that improved Prime Video search relevance by 40%, delivered major UX redesigns, and helped launch Amazon’s Watch Party feature — enhancing how millions of customers interact with content.
Spetalnick began her Amazon journey in 2019, advancing quickly through multiple roles. Prior to her time in Prime Video, Spetalnick worked for Alexa AI. There, she defined privacy and security strategy at scale and led the development of privacy-by-design solutions for natural language systems. She also co-invented a patent during this time — U.S. Patent 20240296838, “Machine Learning Model Updating” — which reflects her expertise in applying cutting-edge generative AI techniques to solve complex real-world challenges.
Before joining Amazon, Spetalnick worked at Microsoft from 2015 to 2019, first as a Developer Evangelist and later as a Program Manager for Azure Machine Learning. Notably, she began her career in machine learning well before it became a mainstream focus, demonstrating early foresight into the technology’s transformative potential. This early expertise empowered her to lead foundational projects and advocate for AI-driven cloud solutions years ahead of industry trends. At Microsoft, she promoted cutting-edge cloud technologies through high-profile conferences, including PyCon, Grace Hopper Celebration, and a White House-sponsored hackathon. She also co-created the “Choose to Code: Intro to Data Science” curriculum, which reached more than 6,000 students across 800 classrooms. As a program manager, she helped define and deliver user experiences for machine learning platforms supporting Natural Language Processing (NLP), recommendation systems, and computer vision.
Her academic background laid a strong foundation for her technical career. Spetalnick graduated from Duke University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Statistical Science, earning distinction in Statistical Science. During her undergraduate years, she authored research papers, including “A Bayesian Approach to Predicting Music Popularity” and “Understanding the MOOC Student Experience.” She also attended the Grace Hopper Celebration, which helped launch her trajectory in the tech industry.
Outside of work, Spetalnick enjoys ballroom dancing and staying active with her young daughter. She is also committed to community service, having volunteered with the Emily K Center (2011–2015) and co-founded a chapter of Free the Children (now WE Charity) during high school. She remains active in civic organizations such as The Jewish Federations of North America.
Spetalnick attributes her success to a combination of hard work, strategic thinking, and a deep commitment to collaboration and trust. She is particularly proud of achieving a Principal-level leadership role ahead of the typical industry timeline — and remains focused on shaping the future of machine learning with ethical, privacy-forward, and human-centered solutions.
