After an early career in photography and 3 years in the US Army, two of them in the signal corp in Italy, Mr. Sidman completed coursework in architecture at Portland State University, which provided a foundation for both his early work in architecture and later ventures into technology-driven projects. Early in his career, Mr. Sidman apprenticed as an architectural draftsman for major firms in San Francisco, Denver, Portland and Monterey, California, becoming a licensed architect in 1976. Before transitioning fully into technology, he made notable contributions to land development and architecture in Monterey County. Mr. Sidman counts his role as the founder, architect and general manager of Chamisal Tennis Club from 1973 to 1977 as one of his proudest professional sports accomplishments. The club celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2024, underscoring its lasting impact on the community. As a founding partner and project architect for Garden Racquetball and Fitness Center in 1977, Mr. Sidman played a key role in creating a major racquetball and fitness facility for the region. As an accomplished carpenter and contractor, he also designed and built a number of residences in the Monterey and Big Sur regions.
In 1978, Mr. Sidman transitioned from architecture and land development into the computer technology field. He led Electric Memory Inc. as the first computer service bureau on the Monterey Peninsula, providing computer-based accounting and business services. It was there that he began developing his programming and technical thought leadership skills that have carried him as a successful technology innovator to this day. This venture laid the groundwork for his subsequent software company initiatives.
In 1985, he founded and led the growth of Inlex, Inc, where he was president and chief executive officer. In a partnership with Hewlett Packard, Inlex was one of the earliest pioneers to integrate computers into more than 300 major public and academic libraries across the United States and Canada. Additionally, the company’s innovative software was recognized by Library Journal as the most innovative in its field during its third and fourth years.
Since 1993 Mr. Sidman has consulted to corporations, libraries, and governments, domestic and foreign, on digital rights and intellectual property management, and the application of complex large-scale databases for knowledge asset management. In 1996 he was a contributor to the Patent, Trademark, and Copyright Congressional sub-committee for the National Information Infrastructure initiative, during the creation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Extending his library automation journey, in 1997, Mr. Sidman founded and served as the President and Chief Technology Officer of Nousoft, Inc., a company he launched to pioneer the high-speed imagery in libraries – a project funded by contracts from the University of Science and Technology in Hong Kong and other universities.
Responding to the introduction of the Internet in 1999, Mr. Sidman created the Monterey Network Center, where he established one of the first Internet service providers (ISPs) for the Monterey region, expanding its regional reach through strategic acquisitions.
Mr. Sidman has built a dynamic profile in technology, innovation and invention. Before advancing to his current role, he founded in 2004 and held the positions of chairman and chief technology architect at WebLOQ Inc. Under his leadership, the company progressed to become the first to offer highly-secure private email services on the Internet, and securing two patents related to these pioneering technologies. Since 2021, he has served as the chief executive officer of TrustWrx Inc., where he leads the company as its CEO and technology architect, guides development teams and promotes the TrustWrx and the SuprNet platform to the broader security industry.
Throughout his professional journey, Mr. Sidman has been recognized for securing four patents that have shaped internet security practices, including “Internet Packet Provenance to Verify Packet Validity and Control Packet Usage” in 2024 and “Private Electronic Information Exchange” in 2014. An accomplished author, he has published works that include published papers on “Internet Privacy in the US and the Internet” in 2021, as well as additional papers on internet security, cryptography and quantum computing, and the foundation technology behind the SuprNet security ecosystem.
Mr. Sidman maintains active memberships with leading industry organizations, including the International Association of Privacy Professionals since 2017, and Estonian e-Residency since 2015. Beyond his professional pursuits, he has contributed to civic organizations as an advisor and a class judge for the Pebble Beach and other Concours d’Elegance. He has served as a board member for the Intersea Marine Research Foundation, the Marina Technology Cluster and for the Silicon Valley World Internet Center.
As an architect and former general contractor, Mr. Sidman is a skilled woodworker. He also occasionally restores classic European automobiles. Mr. Sidman plans to continue contributing actively within his field well into the future—driven by an enduring love for innovation rather than any consideration of retirement.
