Before his current position, he served as a Workday Student principal consultant from 2021 to 2024 helping solidify his reputation as an expert in cloud-based educational software.
Before his current role, his earlier career was deeply rooted in student affairs and enrollment management, notably as the vice president for student success at Northwest Florida State College from 2017 to 2021, where he played a pivotal role in enhancing student experiences and outcomes. His tenure as the vice president for enrollment management and student affairs at West Kentucky Community & Technical College between 2014 and 2017 was marked by significant contributions to the institution’s growth and development.
Dr. Slaton’s commitment to higher education began as the TRiO program coordinator at Madisonville Community College between 2004 and 2011. He previously held financial aid director roles at Ivy Tech Community College and West Kentucky Community & Technical College from 2011 to 2014. These positions laid the foundation for his passion for working with students and fostering their academic success.
In preparation for future success, Dr. Slaton earned a bachelors in English from the University of Evansville in 2006, a masters in adult education from Western Kentucky University in 2010 and a doctor of education in educational leadership from the University of the Cumberlands in 2017. In addition to his professional endeavors, he is actively involved in civic organizations. He currently serves as a board member of the Destin History and Fishing Museum. His commitment to community service was previously exemplified through various roles with the American Cancer Society, Rotary International and Lions Clubs International.
Dr. Slaton’s contributions have been recognized through several prestigious awards, including the John & Suanne Roueche Excellence Award from the League for Innovation in the Community College in 2013, the New Horizons Award of Excellence from West Kentucky Community & Technical College in 2014 and the Lifesaver Award from the Association of Florida Colleges in 2021 for his work with the American Cancer Society. He attributes much of his success to seeking out mentors who provide unique perspectives and skills, which have enriched his career trajectory. Looking ahead, he aims to deepen his involvement in educational technology, exploring how software systems can have a profound impact on students’ lives.
