Mr. Whitehurst’s previous startup experience includes serving as the founder, co-owner and board chairman of Velleros Inc. from 2007 to 2011, as well as the founder and co-owner of Equity Engineering LLC from 1986 until 1996.

In his corporate career, Mr. Whitehurst held a series of leadership roles, most recently as the chief strategy officer at Comtech Telecommunications Corp. from 2022 to 2023. Prior to this position, he served as the president of Trusted Location at Comtech Telecommunications Corp. between 2011 and 2022, during which time he was instrumental in driving strategic growth and innovation.

From 2007 until 2010, Mr. Whitehurst was the chief operating officer at Movius Interactive; he also held the same position at GENBAND in 2007, managing operations and contributing to both companies’ expansion efforts. His earlier role as the president of Switching Solutions at Tekelec from 2006 to 2007 further solidified his expertise in telecommunications. Before joining Tekelec, he offered his talents as the executive vice president of sales, marketing and business development at Axes Technologies from 2005 until 2006.

Previously, Mr. Whitehurst made a meaningful impact at Nortel Networks as the organization’s senior vice president of wireless operations between 2003 and 2005, following his time as a general manager there from 1998 until 2003. During his time at Nortel Networks, he led the DMS Evolution software development project and received prestigious accolades such as the President’s Award for Quality and Manager of the Year. He also worked in software development at Bell-Northern Research from 1983 to 1998, during which time he honed his technical skills.

Laying the foundation for Mr. Whitehurst’s professional achievements was his educational background, inclusive of a Bachelor of Science in industrial education and technology with minors in physics, management and marketing from Appalachian State University. He also completed coursework at North Carolina State University and at East Carolina University. Further enhancing his leadership capabilities, he participated in the Executive Management Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and in the Advanced Management Program at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Reflecting on his career, Mr. Whitehurst attributes his accomplishments to a strong work ethic instilled by his parents. This groundwork has been pivotal in his rise as a successful executive and entrepreneur. Alongside his brothers, all of whom are chief executive officers, he has demonstrated that dedication and perseverance can lead to remarkable triumphs. He currently spends his time at multiple homes in North Carolina, including properties in Washington, on the Pamlico River in Littleton, on Lake Gaston in Tarboro, near his mother, and near the airport in Raleigh with his significant other, Sheila Sanderson.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Mr. Whitehurst has been recognized for his contributions with nominations for many different board of director positions. His commitment to excellence has been evident throughout his career, underscoring his impact on the industries he has served.
