Prior to his deanship, he served as associate dean from 1998 to 1999 and chairman from 1980 to 1998 of the same school. Before joining the University of South Alabama, Dr. Feinstein was a professor of mathematics and computer science at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls from 1971 to 1980. During this time, he also held the positions of coordinator of computer science and director of academic computing from 1975 to 1980, as well as director of the Western Wisconsin Academic Computing Consortium until 1981. These roles underscored his commitment to advancing computing education and facilitating collaboration among academic institutions.
Dr. Feinstein’s educational background laid the foundation for his illustrious career. He earned a Bachelor of Science in physics, cum laude, from Brown University in 1963, followed by a Master of Science in Engineering and a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 1964 and 1967, respectively. Dr. Feinstein attributes his success to his early involvement in computing during the 1960s–a time when computing was transforming into an essential component of modern life. His pioneering work and leadership roles at both local and international levels have established him as a respected figure in the computing industry.
Dr. Feinstein’s expertise in curriculum development has been a cornerstone of his career. His most notable achievement lies in the accreditation and evaluation of computing programs worldwide, showcasing his global impact on the field.
