5.1MP BSI CMOS USB Camera | onsemi AR0521 Sensor | M12 VCM Autofocus | 1080p @ 60fps | UVC Plug-and-Play | Low-Noise HDR Imaging | Software-Controlled Focus | Embedded Vision Ready
FORT WORTH, TX / ACCESS Newswire / March 26, 2026 / Vadzo Imaging today announced the launch of the Falcon-521CRH, the first Autofocus USB 3.2 Gen 1 UVC embedded camera to pair the Onsemi AR0521 1/2.5″ BSI CMOS sensor, a 5.1MP, 60fps imaging platform built for low-light and HDR performance, with an M12 lens holder featuring an integrated Voice Coil Motor (VCM) autofocus mechanism. The combination delivers a capability previously unavailable in a single USB camera module: the large-format optical characteristics of a 1/2.5″ sensor with the real-time, software-controlled focus flexibility of M12 VCM autofocus, packaged for direct integration into embedded and OEM vision systems.
Traditional M12 (S-Mount) cameras use fixed-focus lenses, requiring manual calibration at a specific working distance and mechanical recalibration whenever the application changes. The Falcon-521CRH eliminates this constraint by integrating a VCM actuator directly into the M12 lens holder, enabling the host system to drive focus adjustment programmatically through software, without touching hardware, and without interrupting operation.
Built on the AR0521’s back-illuminated (BSI) pixel architecture with 2.2µm pixel pitch, the camera delivers 5MP (2592 × 1944) still capture and full HD streaming at up to 60fps. A UVC-compliant USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C interface enables plug-and-play deployment across Windows, Linux, and Android without custom driver development. The compact 38mm × 38mm board, convertible to 32mm × 32mm, is designed for direct integration into space-constrained platforms including medical devices, industrial kiosks, robotics, and logistics systems.
“Engineers designing embedded vision systems have long had to choose between a large 1/2.5″ sensor for low-light performance and the flexibility of a motorized autofocus lens , they couldn’t have both in an M12 form factor,” said Ashu Gupta, Product Manager, Vadzo Imaging. “The Falcon-521CRH is our answer to that gap. We are bringing the AR0521’s imaging capability together with VCM-based autofocus in a design that integrates directly into production hardware, giving developers adaptive focus control without adding system complexity.”

Key Capabilities of the Falcon-521CRH Onsemi AR0521 M12 VCM Autofocus USB 3.2 Gen 1 UVC Camera
Industry-First M12 VCM Autofocus on a 1/2.5″ Sensor Platform: The Falcon-521CRH Onsemi AR0521 Autofocus USB camera integrates a Voice Coil Motor directly into its M12 lens holder, the first USB embedded camera to combine this form factor with the Onsemi AR0521 1/2.5″ sensor. Focus position is controlled entirely through software over the USB interface, enabling the host system to adjust focal distance in real time without mechanical intervention. This eliminates fixed-focus calibration constraints and supports applications where object distance varies continuously across operating cycles.
Onsemi AR0521 BSI CMOS: Low-Noise Imaging at 5.1MP and 60fps: The AR0521 sensor features a 1/2.5″ optical format with 2.2µm BSI pixels, delivering 5MP (2592 × 1944) resolution with superior low-light sensitivity and low noise output. The sensor supports full 1080p streaming at up to 60fps, HDR line-interleaved T1/T2 readout for off-chip ISP HDR processing, and a 1440p mode for 16:9 applications. Its BSI architecture captures more light per pixel compared to front-side illuminated designs, enabling stable, detail-rich imaging in indoor, low-illumination, and high-contrast scenes.
Hybrid Autofocus Engine for Fast, Reliable Focus in Embedded Systems: The Falcon-521CRH incorporates an ISP that has been calibrated to achieve Autofocus capability. Unlike single-method autofocus systems that struggle under low contrast, low light, or fast motion, the Hybrid AF engine that runs on the camera adapts its approach based on scene conditions. The Hybrid AF engine supports continuous autofocus, one-shot AF, and manual focus override for applications requiring fixed focal control. Focus operation is fully accessible through software, via the VISPA ARC SDK or standard UVC controls.
ROI-Based AE, ROI-Based Autofocus, and Dynamic ROI: The Falcon-521CRH supports independently configurable regions of interest for both exposure and autofocus control. ROI-based AE allows exposure metering to be anchored to a specific zone of the frame, critical for applications where subject brightness differs significantly from the background, such as barcode scanning against reflective surfaces or face capture in high-contrast lighting. ROI-based autofocus directs the Hybrid AF engine to optimize focus within a defined image region, improving acquisition speed and accuracy when the subject occupies a predictable area of the frame. Dynamic ROI allows these regions to be repositioned at runtime by the host application.
Software-Controlled Focus for Dynamic Vision Applications: Focus adjustment on the Falcon-521CRH either driven by the is driven entirely through the host application via the VISPA ARC SDK or standard UVC controls, no manual lens ring, no hardware modification. The VCM actuator responds in real time to programmatic commands, allowing the camera to track focus across moving objects, variable conveyor positions, changing patient distances in medical imaging, or shifting document-to-camera distances in OCR and barcode applications.
Plug-and-Play USB 3.2 Gen 1 Integration: The Falcon-521CRH delivers image data over USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C with full UVC compliance, enabling driverless operation on Windows, Linux, and Android out of the box. USB 2.0 backward compatibility extends deployment flexibility across existing system architectures. GPIO support adds trigger and synchronization connectivity for systems requiring event-driven image capture.
Compact, Embeddable Board Architecture: At 38mm × 38mm (convertible to 32mm × 32mm), the Falcon-521CRH is engineered for direct integration into embedded platforms without mechanical redesign. The M12 lens holder with integrated VCM maintains the standard S-Mount footprint, preserving optical configuration flexibility to integrate any M12-compatible lens with the autofocus mechanism, enabling application-specific field-of-view customization.
VISPA ARC SDK for Developer Integration
The Falcon-521CRH is supported by the Vadzo VISPA ARC SDK, providing fine-grained control over autofocus, streaming, ROI configuration, exposure, trigger synchronization, binning, and windowing. APIs are available for C, C++, C#, and Python across Windows, Linux, and embedded platforms, enabling faster development cycles and straightforward lifecycle management for OEM deployments.
Target Applications
Industrial Automation and Variable-Distance Inspection Systems: The Falcon-521CRH is suited for inspection systems where object distance changes across conveyor lines or multi-stage processes. VCM-based autofocus enables real-time focus adjustment without manual recalibration, while 1080p@60fps streaming supports continuous image capture for high-throughput inspection workflows.
Robotics and Autonomous Systems: The Falcon-521CRH is designed for robotics applications where camera-to-object distance is continuously changing during navigation or manipulation tasks. Software-controlled autofocus allows the vision system to maintain image sharpness without mechanical adjustment, while the compact 38mm × 38mm board supports integration into space-constrained robotic platforms.
